Where the informational world of the mundane and arcane meet

A candlelit library with tall shelves and a reading table

The library

The library

The institute’s shelves, in one place. History and business beside the working books of the tradition, the plant books beside the mineralogies, the philosophers beside the field guides — and the volumes that are hard to find and harder to replace.

Every title here is a real book by a real author. The library is the institute’s own, and it grows as books come to it; what is on the shelves today is what is listed today.

How it is kept

Shelves, and what is on them

The library is arranged by topic rather than by author, so a reader looking for the plant books finds the plant books together. Every shelf carries its own line saying what belongs on it.

The title
What the book is called, as it was published.
The author
Who wrote it — or the translator or editor, where the work is one.
The year
The year or edition, where it is known.
The shelf
Which topic it belongs to, and where to find it again.

A note on the covers. The library shows no invented cover art. A book without a photograph or a scan yet carries a quiet panel in its place, and the institute’s own photograph of the copy goes in the moment she sends it.

Find a book

Search the shelves

The book is the least of the work, and the beginning of it.

The rare stock passes through once, and the shelves are open to anyone. Ask about a title and the institute will answer directly.
